Washington Township, Mercer County
Located directly adjacent to a greenway of already preserved farmland, the 50-acre Powner Farm in Washington Township is a critical link in D&R Greenway’s efforts to create a greenbelt around the Borough of Allentown in southern Mercer and western Monmouth Counties. Through an innovative land swap, a conservation easement was placed on the property, and its underlying fee was traded for 30-acre tract in Upper Freehold Township that will become a municipal park. Due to their close proximity to the New Jersey Turnpike and Interstate highways 195 and 295, both properties faced strong development pressures.
This complex acquisition was completed at a cost of $1,075,000, with the help of a $802,000 loan from OSI.
