New Jersey Land Protection Fund

The New Jersey Land Protection Fund (loans) was launched in January of 2003 with $3.5 million in Program Related Investments (PRIs) from the Geraldine R. Dodge and William Penn Foundations to support conservation in New Jersey. The fund operates throughout New Jersey but recognizes certain ecologically critical areas defined as the highest priorities by New Jersey's conservation community: the Highlands of the northwest; the Pinelands; the Barnegat Bay watershed; and the Delaware Bay Shore area.

OSI has made sixteen loans in NJ, totaling $9.2 million to protect 10,893 acres. (May 2011)  Loan beneficiaries have included a variety of New Jersey conservation organizations, including the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, Morris Land Conservancy, D & R Greenway Inc., the Monmouth Conservation Foundation and the Unexpected Wildlife Refuge.

Loans are available for up to three years, with a simple interest rate of 3%. The need for loan collateral/security varies depending on the borrower and the transaction. Repayment terms will be set in accordance with project needs.
