The most effective nonprofit organizations have learned that financial strength is vital to programmatic success. This seminar is designed to meet the needs of growing land trusts by giving them practical methods of strategic planning.
OSI’s Peter Howell, Vice President of Conservation Finance and Marc Hunt, Southern Appalachian Field Coordinator and Credit Manager have presented Planning by the Numbers to hundreds of non-profit organizations at multiple venues including Land Trust Alliance’s national rally.
Participants gain comfort with, and appreciation for, the big-picture financial challenges to their organizations. Relying on real-life case study examples, this program equips senior staff and board members with the tools and confidence needed to emphasize financial goals and outcomes in their strategic planning efforts.
Analytical techniques and planning models are explored by using familiar organizational financial statements, such as the balance sheet and income statement. Restricted vs. unrestricted assets and endowment performance are also discussed from a nonprofit point of view. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to complete a financial sustainability report card for their organizations.
