Philipstown Town Park
In 1994, OSI acquired the former property of the Malcolm Gordon School, a 52-acre plot on one of the most scenic sites in the Hudson Highlands, overlooking the eastern viewshed of the Hudson River in Philipstown.
OSI donated 25 acres to the Town of Philipstown for a new town park and recreational area. Offering panoramic views of Storm King Mountain, West Point, and the western Hudson Highlands, the park includes playing fields, a covered pavilion, and walking trails. The Hastings Center, an independent and non-profit bioethics research institute, leases the rest of the land, including the school, which it renovated to serve as its headquarters.
This acquisition is one piece in an ongoing effort in the Philipstown area to protect the Hudson River shoreline between the “North” and “South” gates of the Highlands.
