Summer is in full swing. For some it is time to take a breather, for others, the heat is on. In Maine a decision is imminent on the Plum Creek development plan for Moosehead Lake, and the period for public comments ends July 11th. With the recent publication of the Maine Policy Review, OSI continues to contribute our expertise to the big questions in the North Woods.

Closer to our New York home, OSI protected a farm (Appel) in New Jersey and a watershed (Ashokan) in New York—both are home to renowned summer music and art camps. If you wish to spend the July Fourth weekend far from the crowds, and free from the gas pump, check out three hikes where you can take a train to the trail head.

BIG QUESTIONS IN MAINE'S NORTH WOODS

As Maine's Land Use Regulatory Commission enters the final phase of deliberations over Plum Creek's proposed development for Moosehead Lake, the recent publication of the Maine Policy Review examines the issues at play in Maine’s North Woods.

ARTS AND A FARM PROTECTED IN NJ BY OSI LOAN

The Open Space Institute awarded a $680,000 loan to the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center to help protect 110 acres in southern New Jersey. The loan supports the efforts of the Center to purchase a 46-acre farm adjacent to their existing property.
