OSI Trail Bridge Project Becomes a Family Affair
A West Point engineering instructor and his daughter stepped in to construct a new trail bridge at Fahnestock State Park, after the cadet students who designed the bridge were forced to cut the on-campus school year short due to COVID-19. This is the third trail bridge that OSI has partnered with cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point to replace at Fahnestock. The project is part of OSI’s ongoing, large scale trail improvements at the park it has more than doubled over the years.

discover RICH History on Georgia PRESERVE
One of the largest, unprotected sites on the Southeast Atlantic coast was protected by OSI and The Conservation Fund. The 16,000-acre ecologically significant property serves as critical habitat for the gopher tortoise and other species. But the land, like many European entry points and which became an eventual rice plantation, also has an important human history.

PLANTING TREES TO IMPROVE WALLKILL RIVER
OSI, in coordination with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program and the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance, sponsored two weeks of native tree and shrub planting at OSI’s River-to-Ridge Trail in New Paltz. Nearly 30 volunteers planted 110 trees to improve the long-term water quality of the Wallkill River.

New Land and a New Trail for Bluestone
Thanks to the work of OSI, more than 200 acres have been added to the Catskill Park’s Bluestone Wild Forest, officially creating a link between two previously unconnected sections of the Wild Forest. Prior to the transfer, OSI, working with local partners and supporters, constructed a 2-mile multi-use trail for hikers, mountain bikers, runners, walkers, and skiers.

Fans of Minnewaska State Park are invited to join the chorus of the forest by sponsoring a ‘Birds of Minnewaska’ window tile at the new Visitor Center set to open in October. Each personalized bird tile will be part of a prominent window exhibit. Your lasting tribute will help visitors learn about some of the park’s many songbirds and raptors.
